About

Arizona Biltmore

The Arizona Biltmore, a Waldorf Astoria Resort, is a Phoenix landmark inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's geometric design philosophy. Known as the 'Jewel of the Desert,' this 1929 icon features 36 holes of golf, art deco architecture, and has welcomed every U.S. president since Herbert Hoover.

  • Adobe Course (William P. Bell, 1928) is one of the oldest resort layouts in the American Southwest, built at William Wrigley Jr.'s direction with decades of presidential and celebrity play embedded in its history
  • Eight pools across the resort grounds, reflecting the Biltmore's long heritage as a Phoenix social hub since its 1929 opening
  • Two 18-hole courses on property — the historic Adobe (par 72) and the Links Course (par 71, opened 1979)
  • Frank Lloyd Wright-influenced architecture throughout the resort buildings and public spaces
  • Proximity to Camelback Mountain and the broader Biltmore neighborhood, Phoenix's most prestigious address for desert winter retreats

Signature Hole

The Adobe Course · 17th (Par 4)

A 311-yard driveable par-4 that forces a genuine commitment decision off the tee — a large bunker short-right punishes the cautious line, while the green slopes dramatically back-to-front, making bump-and-run approaches from close range nearly impossible to control. One of the most strategically honest short par-4s on any resort course in the Southwest.

Best Time to Visit

November – April

Phoenix winters deliver reliably clear skies and temperatures in the 65–80°F range — ideal desert golf weather, with none of the triple-digit heat that shuts down play from June through September.

LXV Insider

The Adobe Course dates to 1928 under William Wrigley Jr. — ask the pro shop for a historical scorecard showing the original routing. The driveable 17th (311 yards) rewards an aggressive line, but the bunker short-right swallows anything short of fully committed.

Features &
Amenities

The Arizona Biltmore sits on 39 acres in the Biltmore district of Phoenix, a 1929 property shaped by the textile-block design language of Albert Chase McArthur with consulting from Frank Lloyd Wright, now operating as part of Hilton's LXR Hotels collection with two golf courses, a 28,000-square-foot desert spa, and eight pools.

Estates and Links Golf Courses

The Estates Course (par 71, 6,669 yards) opened in late 2023 after a ground-up rebuild by five-time PGA Tour champion Tom Lehman, featuring contoured fairways, white-sand bunkers, and over 400 newly planted trees. The Links Course (par 71, 6,300 yards), designed by Bill Johnston in 1979, weaves through pine and lake terrain in a style more typical of parkland architecture. Both courses are managed by the Arizona Biltmore Golf Club and available to resort guests.

Tierra Luna Spa and Sol Garden

The 28,000-square-foot spa structures its treatment philosophy around three pillars — Desert Botanicals, Cosmic Connection, and Dynamic Recovery — incorporating indigenous Sonoran Desert mud, native herbs, and local scents throughout the menu. The 12 indoor and outdoor treatment rooms are each named after astrological signs. The Sol Garden provides outdoor soaking, a cold plunge, hot tub, halotherapy chamber, Dream Room, and a health bar serving zero-proof botanical beverages.

Historic Architecture and Pool Campus

The resort's pre-cast concrete Biltmore Blocks — a textile-block system designed on-site in 1928 — create a visual language that runs through every building on the property, from the main lodge to the Frank Lloyd Wright Ballroom (opened 2003). The pool campus includes eight distinct pools: the Saguaro Pool, the family-oriented Paradise Pool with a 65-foot triple waterslide called The Twist, and six others. Architecture tours are offered regularly for guests interested in the property's design history.
