In September 2027, the 46th Ryder Cup Matches come to Adare Manor Golf Club in County Limerick, Ireland — the first time the competition has been held on Irish soil since The K Club in 2006. The Venue: Adare Manor

Adare Manor is one of Ireland's finest luxury estates — a 19th-century Gothic Revival mansion set on 840 acres along the banks of the River Maigue in County Limerick. The manor itself is widely regarded as one of the great examples of Gothic architecture in Ireland, and the village of Adare, just minutes from the estate, is consistently voted Ireland's prettiest.

The golf course was redesigned by Tom Fazio and reopened in 2018 following a major renovation. A par 72 layout that winds through ancient woodlands and along the River Maigue, it has since hosted the Irish Open and established itself among Ireland's premier championship venues. The combination of the course quality, the manor, and the surrounding landscape makes Adare Manor an altogether different kind of Ryder Cup venue — less stadium, more estate.

The property is 45 minutes from Shannon Airport and 25 minutes from Limerick city, giving it practical accessibility despite its deeply rural feel. For American visitors, direct transatlantic service into Shannon from Boston, New York, and Chicago makes the logistics unusually straightforward.

The Location: County Limerick and Beyond

Ireland is one of the great golf destinations in the world, and the southwest — Limerick, Clare, Kerry — is its heartland. Within two hours of Adare Manor lie some of the most storied links courses on earth: Ballybunion, Lahinch, Old Head of Kinsale, Waterville, and the courses of the Dingle Peninsula. The Competition

Format

The Ryder Cup is a biennial team match play event between the United States and Europe. Three days of competition, 28 points available — the team that reaches 14.5 points wins. The format is unchanged since 1979 and produces some of the most compelling theatre in sport.

Friday and Saturday each deliver eight points across four foursomes and four four-ball matches, with two sessions per day. Sunday's 12 singles matches — one per player per team — produce the Ryder Cup's defining moments. The mathematics create tension that no other format in golf can replicate: a match that was over by Saturday afternoon can come completely undone on Sunday.

European Captain

Luke Donald has been retained as European Team Captain for 2027, having led Europe to a decisive victory at Marco Simone in Rome in 2023. His continuity offers Europe a meaningful structural advantage — knowledge of the players, the dynamics, and the preparation process that accumulates over a full cycle.

Ireland in 2027

The last time the Ryder Cup visited Ireland — The K Club, 2006 — Europe won 18.5 to 9.5, one of the most comprehensive home victories in the event's history. Adare Manor's capacity, the surrounding infrastructure, and Limerick city's hotel stock make 2027 a far more manageable logistical proposition than some previous Ryder Cups — but manageable is relative. Ireland is a small island, and Ryder Cup week will test every available room and road in the region.
