The Old Course Hotel sits in an unrivaled position overlooking the iconic 17th Road Hole of the Old Course at St Andrews — the Home of Golf. With its own championship course, the Duke's, and privileged access to the hallowed links, this five-star hotel is a pilgrimage destination for golfers worldwide.
- The hotel sits directly on the 17th fairway of the Old Course, giving certain room and suite windows an unobstructed view of the Road Hole as it plays out in real time
- Old Course ballot assistance and dedicated golf concierge give guests the best realistic odds of securing a tee time on the world's most famous links
- The Duke's Course, designed by Peter Thomson on elevated ground above St Andrews, plays as a 6,800-yard parkland alternative with panoramic views over the town and estuary
- Kohler Waters Spa and a 20-meter pool provide full recovery infrastructure for multi-day links itineraries
- The Jigger Inn, one of Scotland's most storied golf pubs, is a literal three-iron from the hotel entrance
The Course
- The Duke's Course — 18 holes, par 72, designed by Peter Thomson
Old Course at St Andrews · 17th (Road Hole) (Par 4)
The 495-yard Road Hole is the longest par-4 on the Old Course and requires a blind tee shot over a replica railway shed beside the Old Course Hotel — the hotel's signage itself serves as the aiming point. The approach must avoid the cavernous Road Hole bunker at front and a public road and stone wall behind a green no wider than 16 yards at its narrowest.

On Property
May - October
Scottish summer brings long twilight — usable daylight past 10pm in June — and the best stretches of dry, firm links conditions that make the Old Course play as intended.
If the Old Course ballot doesn't come through — and most days it won't — the hotel's 60-course indoor simulator includes a laser-accurate replica of the Old Course itself; play it the night before your ballot attempt to memorize the double greens and the Road Hole line. The Jigger Inn, a 19th-century pub immediately adjacent to the 17th fairway, pours after any round.

Features &
Amenities
Owned by Kohler Co. since 2004 and positioned directly beside the 17th fairway of the Old Course, this 175-room property gives guests the only private hotel access to Scotland's most consequential stretch of links land, alongside the sole Kohler Waters Spa outside the United States.

St Andrews Links Course Access
The hotel's concierge arranges tee times across all seven St Andrews Links Trust courses, including guaranteed access to the Old Course through the hotel's direct tour operator packages — bypassing the public ballot system that leaves independent visitors without a starting time. The hotel-owned Duke's Course, opened in 1995 on a parkland site above the town, is available exclusively to hotel guests and provides an alternative on days when Links Trust courses are unavailable.

Kohler Waters Spa
The only Kohler Waters Spa outside the United States occupies a dedicated facility with 13 treatment rooms including two couples' rooms and two wet treatment rooms with KOHLER bathing installations. Signature contrast therapy anchors the program, with a KLAFS snow-and-sauna cabin, 8-foot plunge pool, rooftop hot tub, and 20-meter lap pool. A five-month renovation completed before 2026 added Scotland's most advanced contrast therapy circuit.

Road Hole Restaurant
The hotel's flagship dining room holds 3 AA Rosettes — the highest designation awarded within the property — and looks directly onto the Road Hole, the 17th on the Old Course, through floor-to-ceiling windows. The restaurant takes its name from Old Station Road, the road that runs behind the elevated 17th green and has been literally in play on the world's oldest course for well over a century. The Jigger Inn, a historic pub on the grounds, serves as the more informal counterpoint.

Events
St Andrews is the host venue for The Open Championship on a recurring cycle, with the hotel positioned as the central accommodation for players, officials, and serious spectators during championship weeks.
The Open Championship
St Andrews has hosted The Open more times than any other venue — 30 occasions through 2022 — and the Old Course Hotel sits directly on the links that will host the 155th championship in July 2027. The hotel serves as the primary accommodation hub for the championship, with packages structured around official hospitality, tee-side access, and post-round access to the Road Hole Restaurant and bar. The 2022 edition, the 150th Open, was won by Cameron Smith and drew the largest recorded gallery in the tournament's modern era.
