Das Achental

Grassau, Germany

An 18-hole Thomas Himmel course, three Michelin stars at the table, and a lake of its own in the Chiemgau Alps

Between the Chiemsee and the jagged Kampenwand, in the climatic health resort of Grassau, Das Achental occupies 179 rooms and suites built in alpine chic by owner Ursula Schelle-Müller — larch wood, loden, and natural stone throughout. The 18-hole championship course, laid out by architect Thomas Himmel across open meadow and resort lake, holds membership among Germany's Leading Golf Clubs, and its halfway house, Seehütte10, sits lakeside beneath the Chiemgau peaks. At es:senz, chef Edip Sigl holds three Michelin stars, while the resort itself carries two Michelin Keys. The 2,000-square-meter Achental Spa pairs six saunas and two pools with a signature treatment built on regional moor, the Black Gold.

Life at Das Achental

From a lakeside halfway house to a three-Michelin-star table, three details set Das Achental apart in the Chiemgau.

The resort's 18-hole championship course, laid out by architect Thomas Himmel through open meadow and mature stands of trees, wraps a private lake at its heart. At the turn sits Seehütte10, sometimes called Germany's loveliest halfway house — a lakeside terrace for regional snacks, home-made cakes…

Three Stars in the Chiemgau

Executive Chef Edip Sigl holds three Michelin stars at es:senz, the resort's gourmet restaurant, built on a philosophy the kitchen calls Chiemgau Pur: a short list of exacting, organic, largely regional ingredients rather than excess. Sommelier Iiro Lutter, awarded five red grapes by Gault&Millau…

A Golf House Built for the Long Game

Beyond the course itself, Das Achental's golf house anchors an outsized practice operation: a PGA Premium Golf School with individualized swing analysis, a fitting center run with HiO Fitting, and GPS-equipped carts for navigating the spacious layout. The academy serves complete beginners and…
