A 1922 mountain inn with clay courts under granite

High Hampton is a mountain resort at 3,500 feet in the Blue Ridge, open since 1922 and centered on a bark-sided inn. Four Har-Tru clay courts and one hard court sit beside the dahlia gardens, developed under the direction of Andy Roddick. Six pickleball courts, an 18-hole Tom Fazio golf course and a freshwater lake fill the rest of the 1,400 acres.

Clay Courts Under the Rock Face

Four Har-Tru clay courts and one hard court sit between the dahlia gardens and the Fitness Studio, with mountain views in every direction. The clay plays slow and cool at elevation. The insider's note

Court time for Inn guests carries no fee, but it must be reserved through the concierge in 60 or 90 minute slots. Book the Har-Tru courts first, since they close for the season on November 30, and ask about a clinic at the same time because instruction is billed separately.
