The Golf

The course

Signature Hole

The 1st · The Preserve Golf Course · Par 3

The opening hole plays 147 yards from the highest point on the property, requiring a drop shot down to a softly contoured green that rolls from the lower left to the upper right half, set against a sharp wooded slope. It immediately establishes the course's design premise: elevation change as the primary defense.

The Estate

Life at The Preserve Sporting Club & Resort

Across 3,500 acres of Rhode Island woodland, The Preserve is built around field sports — wing shooting, sporting clays, and the longest indoor range in the country.

Sporting Clays & The Range

Three clays courses — including a 19-station layout running more than a mile and a half — plus The Range, an indoor facility with 150-yard lanes and 24 stations for pistol, rifle, and archery.

The Hilltop Spa

Twelve thousand square feet with heated whirlpools, cold plunge, private sauna, and an outdoor infinity-edge pool overlooking the property.

Double Barrel Steak

A 350-seat modern American steakhouse serving dry-aged beef and ocean steaks — and the kitchen will prepare a guest's own harvested game. The Maker's Mark Hobbit House hosts bourbon-paired dinners built into the hillside.

When to go

May - October

Southern Rhode Island's temperate season delivers comfortable playing conditions through summer and fall foliage in September and October that transforms the surrounding woodland into a dramatic backdrop.

The insider's note

The Mountain Course plays its full 18 holes as a par-3 layout, which reads deceptively short on paper — the first hole drops from the highest point on the property into a tilted green, and the elevation changes throughout are severe enough to require a full bag. Pair a morning round with an afternoon sporting clays session for the most complete expression of what the Preserve actually offers.
